Eros in Greek mythology was the Greek god of love. His Roman counterpart was Cupid("desire"). Some myths make him a primordial god, while in other myths, he is the son of Aphrodite. The sleeping Eros was a popular figure in Hellenistic art and beyond. Rather than the more traditional depiction of the cheeky and mischievous archer child, the god is reworked as a vulnerable, sleeping child.
